HipaaShare.com is a concept conceived by Coburn Enterprises founder Harmony Coburn as a direct result of her consulting work with long term care and other small to medium health care providers. Many of these clients first met Coburn Enterprises when they came to us for their website development and/or email hosting needs. Because we really do understand that even a company with 300 employees is not a large company with unlimited funds, our clients started asking for our help navigating other technology solutions. Coburn Enterprises has slowly morphed into offering network consulting and remote desktop support along with our web development and marketing consulting services.
The concept of HipaaShare.com came about as we struggled to help these clients find ways to safely communicate, store and share information that is affected by the rules of HIPAA and/or the HiTech Act in a mobile, cloud based world.
In working with these clients, we realized that they had solutions for the “big data” they handle for clients and patients like medical records and medication management. The challenge was protecting sensitive data during routine communications that happen between their internal staff, external resources and the patients, clients and families they serve.
With email, remote workers and the smart adoption of collaboration with complimentary providers becoming such a common way of meeting the complex needs of the clients, patients and families these small to medium companies serve, the risk of accidental distribution of protected data increases. While there are many robust platforms being presented to these types of businesses, most of them are expensive, complex and duplicate many of the resources they are already paying for!
Over the past 4 years the team at Coburn Enterprises has focused on filling in the gaps. In just the last 4 years the cloud collaboration offerings have exploded, making it ever more difficult for an office manager or small IT team to determine which solutions are right for their particular environment.
We have studied the HIPAA and HiTech Act mandates to sort out what our clients need to do to meet compliance standards. The products we present under the HipaaShare.com umbrella are a result of our experiences.
At one point we considered building our own platform but, in the end, and in line with our core philosophy of helping our clients meet objectives in cost effective ways by leveraging what other, larger companies have already built, we decided not to reinvent the wheel. Instead we have selected a few providers that we resell or earn commissions from so that we can help our clients meet their collaboration and communications needs within a reasonable budget.
Most of the products we offer through HipaaShare.com are available directly from the underlying carrier if you prefer to manage the relationship with them directly. In some instances, we are only offering you our consulting services, we will help you establish a direct billing relationship with the actual solution provider. The objective of HipaaShare.com is to provide a sort of “portal” for our clients to find, purchase and access the solutions they need to make everyday collaboration, document sharing and email communications easier.
For some of the products you will find on HipaaShare.com you will be surprised to see that we are charging the same price, or sometimes even less than what the underlying provider would charge and billing you directly. This is because we are able to make volume purchases by combining the needs of multiple smaller organizations to purchase in bulk. In those cases, we establish a billing account with you and we pay the underlying provider.
In other instances, our clients will pay a slightly higher price purchasing these products through us because we cannot get a volume discount but we do bring added value to the solutions by simplifying the purchase, deployment and maintenance process. Again, in these scenarios, you will have the benefit of one point of billing even if your solution package are coming from multiple vendors.
Due to the nature of the “cloud” and the “internet of things” being a constantly changing landscape, we expect our offerings at HipaaShare.com will continue to evolve as well.
What will not change is our commitment to helping small to medium businesses get the best they can within their less than perfect budgets!
